A BRIEF PROFILE OF MR. KONG SING TAI
Mr. Kong Sing Tai was born on 7th September, 1966 in Sibu, Sarawak, Malaysia to Mr. & Mrs. Kong Kek Seng and is the oldest male among the seven siblings of sisters and brothers. Mr. Kong is married with five children.

Mr. Kong in his teenage years had already shown his talent and interest in the technical aspect of automobile modification and repairs and instead of pursuing his academic education, he began his apprenticeship at the age of 14, learning automobile repair and doing errant in garage. He has an aptitude in automotive work and learnt fast. He started his own garage in the late 90s and gradually branched off to specialize in modification of vehicle and servicing of heavy equipment.

That was the prime time for timber industry in Sarawak, there was a great demand for excavators in timber camps. The Japanese brand “Komatsu” was the best seller. It is undisputed that this brand of vehicle is good, however, our local terrain, weather and drivers are a great threat to the durability of the vehicle.

After servicing and repairing a great number of these vehicles, Mr. Kong decided to modify them and made them to suit our local condition. His modification was so successful that caused a shock to the Komatsu manufacturer in Japan after receiving feedback from the local dealers. A team was sent to work together with Mr. Kong in his workshop, by then he had expanded his business from garage to workshop and had had more than 10 workmen on his payroll. All this is history now. But today, Komatsu is continuing to be the most popular brand in East Malaysia.

Mr. Kong spends his leisure time in developing new thing. He has successfully made a farm tractor which has patented under Syaifar Tractor Sdn Bhd, a company which is under the family umbrella. This farm tractor is selling well in Sarawak. Presently, he has teamed up with a French company (private owned) in Qingdao, China to manufacture an upgraded version of this farm tractor for the Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia markets and now, he takes the helm of the family’s trading company the Syaifar Realty Sdn Bhd.

To know him better, one has to read further into his family background and nothing is better than to know firsthand about KONG KEK SENG TRANSPORT SDN BHD, the company that was set up by his father.
